Colon Hydrotherapy
A warm, filtered water irrigation of the large intestine. It is a safe and gentle method of cleansing the colon of accumulated waste. A disposable speculum is inserted approximately two inches into the rectum. Filtered water flows into and out of the large intestine for 30-40 minutes. Abdominal Massage is done during the session to facilitate the release of gas and fecal matter.
We use an FDA approved medical device. Our equipment is considered a “closed” system meaning the waste that is released flows directly into the outflow waste tube. Your therapist is present throughout the entire session operating the equipment, administering abdominal massage and holding space for a calm and pleasant experience.
Benefits
1. Hydrates the tissues of the colon and the fecal matter that has accumulated.
2. Tones or “exercises” the colon – the cycling of water in and out of the colon helps to exercise the musculature of the colon and restores muscle memory to the organ.
3. Assists in restoring bacterial balance in the large intestine by removing the the excess waste in the colon.
FAQ’s
1. Does it wipe out the good bacteria? Colonics assist in eliminating the harmful bacteria and stored waste in the colon. Any beneficial bacteria that is flushed out of the body can be easily restored with a probiotic supplement or by eating probiotic-rich foods like miso soup, fermented / cultured vegetables. The amount of good bacteria that might be flushed out of the body is minimal and is mitigated by the vast amount of toxic matter that is released during a session.
2. How many sessions will I need? This is best best determined after your first session, but it’s recommended that you start with a series of 3 sessions – one per week for 3 weeks in a row. After 3 sessions, we can reassess and make further recommendations.
3. Is it painful? There may be occasional discomfort which typically dissipates quickly and is a sign that matter is moving within the colon. Colon Hydrotherapy can be quite a relaxing procedure.
4. Will I be able to work after my session? Yes, you can resume a completely normal day after a session.
5. Is there anything special I need to know? The most important thing is to refrain from eating or drinking 2 hours prior to the appt. For best results, eating more lightly a few days prior to your session is recommended.
Before your session
For a day or two before your session, drink filtered water (at least half your body weight in ounces), herbal teas, fresh juices, and broths (miso & bone broth). Your food intake should consist of organic and seasonal vegetables, soups and small portions of light proteins and whole grains keeping in mind your tolerance for each food group. Eating in this manner reduces build up of excess gas and encourages optimal elimination during your session.
Day of Session
On the day of your session, eat as lightly as possible and hydrate the body. For approximately 2 hours prior to your appointment, try to avoid eating or drinking so you’re not in active digestion mode and to prevent your bladder from filling during the treatment.
After Your Session
You can eat as soon as you want after a colonic. It’s recommended to consume foods and beverages rich in beneficial cultures like cultured vegetables and miso soup or easily digested foods like dark leafy greens and “juicy” vegetables like zucchini and summer squash. Limit gas producing foods like cruciferous veggies, beans and carbonated beverages. Light proteins and whole grains are good choices as long as your system tolerates them.
It is not uncommon for 1-3 days to pass before your first bowel movement after a session. Remember the whole digestive tract is one long tube, so it may take some time for your colon to refill. Until you have a bowel movement, we suggest that you eliminate flour based products, cheeses and ice cream, refined sugar products, fried foods, foods and gas-producing foods. Avoid alcohol. Avoid overeating.
