Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress and anxiety through gentle touch. The hands-on technique delivers energy to your body, improving the flow and balance of your energy to support healing.
Mikao Usui developed Reiki in the early 1900s- using the Japanese words Rei, meaning “universal” and Ki, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things. Now, Reiki is used all over the world, including hospitals and hospices, to compliment other forms of health treatments.
Reiki aids in healing by helping people become energetically balanced in all areas- physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

How Reiki works
Reiki practitioners act as conduits between their clients and the source of the universal life force energy with the energy flowing through the practitioner’s hands to their clients bodies.
The client determines the energy flow from the practitioner’s hands by taking only what they need. This helps the client know that practitioners are supporting them only in what they need rather than what practitioners think they need. This makes it the perfect balance.

What takes place during a Reiki session
Reiki treatments typically last 60 minutes, though sessions can be customized for longer or shorter sessions.
During a session, you will lie on a massage table fully clothed as hands are gently placed, palms down, on the body or above the body. Palms are placed in specific locations and use a series of 12-15 different hand positions. The length of time the hands are placed on the body is determined by the flow of energy through the practitioner’s hands at each location.
You may experience energy in the form of sensations like heat, tingling or pulsing where hands are placed. Most people feel very relaxed during the session.
